Technology at Ascend

The tools we can work with, and how we decide which to use. We choose technology to fit each project. No project uses everything listed here.

What we can work with

Grouped by the part of a system they serve. We select from these, or from other tools, based on your requirements.

Front end

The interfaces people see and use on phones, tablets and computers.

React
Interactive interfaces for web applications and dashboards.
Next.js
Fast, search-friendly websites and full web applications.
TypeScript
Safer, more maintainable code as a project grows.
Tailwind CSS
Consistent, responsive styling across every screen.

Back end and data

The logic, APIs and databases that store records and enforce rules.

Node.js
Server-side logic and APIs.
PostgreSQL
A dependable relational database for structured business data.
Supabase
Managed database, authentication and storage, where it suits the project.

Infrastructure

Where systems run, how they are released and how they are protected.

Cloud infrastructure
Hosting, deployment environments, backups and monitoring on established providers.

Integrations

Connections to payments, messaging and the other systems you rely on.

Payment APIs
Collecting payments through supported payment providers.
Third-party APIs

How we choose technology

A tool is only the right one if it suits the problem, the team that will maintain it and the people who will use it.

  • Start from the requirement

The problem, the users and the budget decide the tools, not the other way round.

  • Prefer proven, maintainable tools

We favour technology with strong communities, good documentation and a long future.

  • Plan for maintenance

A system must be understandable and supportable long after the first release.

  • Design for real connections

Pages and apps should work well on phones and modest mobile data connections.

Engineering standards

Whatever the stack, these are the habits behind the work.

  • Security-conscious by default

Access control, safe handling of data and sensible defaults are part of the build.

  • Tested before launch

Features are checked against requirements and on real devices before release.

  • Mobile-first performance

We keep pages light and layouts stable so they load quickly on mobile networks.

  • Readable, maintainable code

Code is organized so that it can be extended, handed over and supported.
